Wind turbine inauguration project in Sihanoukville: A première in Cambodia
The first wind turbine ever in Cambodia constructed by Comin Khmere at Sihanoukville Port has been inaugurated on 20th January 2010. This gives the nation an opportunity to cross a step into the field of renewable energy. The program is a partnership between Sihanoukville Autonomous Port Authority, the Flemish Government and European Commission. Comin Khmere scope of works coordinated by Mr. Yon Ponnreay, Project Manager, included: 6.6 kV MV network, 0.4 kV LV network, Step up Sub-station 320 kVA including (Transformer 320 kVA, 0.4 kV/ 6.6 kVA, NE-QI Switchgear, LV switchgear) and Step down Sub-station 320 kVA including (Transformer 320 kVA, 0.4 kV/ 6.6 kVA, NE-QI Switchgear, LV switchgear). This project is an indicator, showing that the wind power can be employed in Cambodia. This experience should act as a model in the future for other ports in Cambodia as well as others in the region. While the consumption of wind energy is to efficiently save overhead cost on energy for the authority, it also contributes the friendliness to the environment.
